Dr. Peter Canoll, a long time collaborator with the Bartoli Brain Tumor Laboratory has just received a $1.8 million grant for his research “The Role of White Matter Progenitors in Glioma Formation and Progression.” This grant comes from the National Institute of Neurological Disorters and Stroke and aims to characterize the roles that adult oligodendrocyte progenitor cells play in malignant gliomas, both as the cell of origin and as a reactive component of the tumor environment. “This important research will help us to understand how tumors form and how they behave,” according to Dr. Jeffrey N. Bruce, director of the Bartoli Lab. “In the long run, it will lead to new and better treatments for patients with brain tumors.”
