Dr. Philip Meyers Helps Write New ‘Standards of Practice’ for Stroke Treatment

Dr.Philip MeyersAs President Elect of the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery (SNIS), Dr. Philip Meyers from the Endovascular Center has co-authored a new Standards of Practice document for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke.

In the hopes of improving the diagnosis and treatment of these common blood-clot-causing strokes, Dr. Meyers was joined by authors from seven other world wide organizations to establish the outcomes-based document.

“It is a multi-disciplinary document with representatives from neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology and cardiology from the U.S. and Europe,” says Dr. Meyers. “We have established important metrics for stroke treatment to improve patient care globally.”

An article outlining the new standards of practice has been published this month in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR). The article can be found on page 151 and is titled, Multisociety Consensus Quality Improvement Guidelines for Intraarterial Catheter-directed Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke.
