Dr. Jeffrey Bruce and his team, the Tumornators, hit the road in Central Park this month for Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC).
VABC is an organization who’s mission is, “to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community, and supporting patients, their families, and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.” Learn more about VABC here.
“I am happy to volunteer my time to any organization that is trying to improve the treatment of brain tumors,” says Dr. Bruce, who together with family and personnel from Columbia’s Bartoli Brain Tumor Lab make up the indestructible running team they call the Columbia University TUMORNATORS.
His team includes Matei Banu, Jennifer Sims, Eliza Bruce, Rachel Bruce, Rebecca Bruce, Samuel Bruce, Maria Chiriac, and Liysa Mendels, and together they raised $1,300.00 for the cause this year.
The VABC five mile run/walk took place on Sunday, August 10, 2014 and raised a total of $236,447. The day also included a Family Festival Area with food, beverages, carnival games, music, and face painting.
Dr. Jeffrey Bruce is the Edgar M. Housepian Professor of Neurological Surgery, Director of the Bartoli Brain Tumor Research Laboratory, Co-Director of the Brain Tumor Center, and neurosurgeon at the Pituitary Tumor Center at Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital.
