You’ve heard the saying “It takes a village to raise a child.” It’s kind of the same when it comes to educating neurosurgery residents.
Columbia’s neurosurgical residency program is a particularly good place to get that education because there are so many disciplines under one roof. One of the disciplines that has close ties to neurosurgery is physical therapy.
Recently the neurosurgical faculty brought in Dr. Evan Johnson, Director of Physical Therapy at The Spine Hospital at the Neurological Institute of New York, to talk to residents about how physical therapists work to diagnose a patient.
Dr. Johnson led the residents in a hands-on lab, demonstrating the types of things physical therapists look for when diagnosing a problem.
