PGY-1: Intern

Goals and Objectives

  • 6 months of neurosurgery
  • 3 months of neuro-ICU
  • 1 month of neuroanesthesia
  • 1 month of surgical-ICU
  • 1 month of emergency medicine
  • Attendance at neurosurgery intern boot camps

PGY-2

Goals and Objectives

  • Clinical neurosurgery service, junior resident level; day float/night float, consult/service pager call; operative experience during nonpager carrying shift

PGY-3

Goals and Objectives

  • Clinical neurosurgery service, junior resident level; major operative junior year
  • ABNS Exam

PGY-4

  • Basic science or clinical research year; residents may work in neurosurgery laboratories or develop collaborations in Columbia laboratories outside the department
  • Neurosurgery clinic, one morning per week
  • One night of call every other week
  •  Attend RUNN course
  • Neurosurgery Research Laboratories

PGY-5

Goals and Objectives

  • Basic science or clinical research year; residents may work in neurosurgery laboratories or develop collaborations in Columbia laboratories outside the department
  • Clinical responsibilities limited to senior night call and senior operative coverage

PGY-6

  • Clinical service chief; exclusively operative experience
