The Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center(CCEC) is a global leader in epilepsy research, diagnosis and treatment. Epilepsy study at the CCEC is a truly interdisciplinary specialty requiring a multi-faceted team, including our highly specialized epilepsy neurosurgery doctors, Dr. Guy McKhann (Adult and Pediatric Epilepsy), and Dr. Neil Feldstein (Pediatric Epilepsy), and a dedicated team of experts in epilepsy neurology, neurophysiology, neuroradiology, neuropsychology, and neurosurgery study.
The goal of the CCEC is to continually look for better ways to achieve the best possible outcomes in our epilepsy patients. For forms of epilepsy that cannot be adequately controlled with antiseizure medications, epilepsy surgery may be the best and often the only chance of seizure control or cure. State-of-the-art adult and pediatric monitoring units and a variety of highly specialized techniques are applied to maximize the efficacy and safety of epilepsy surgical procedures.
The CCEC team is continually engaged in clinical investigations of all of the major epilepsy surgical therapies currently under trial as part of multi-institutional NIH- or industry-sponsored studies:
Research consistently finds that experienced surgeons at neuroscience centers of excellence achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
