Dr. Sean Lavine Studying Aneurysm Treatment in Multi-Center HEAT Trial

Dr.Sean Lavine

Dr. Sean Lavine from the Endovascular Center is Principal Investigator here at Columbia University for the
Hydrogel Endovascular Aneurysm Treatment (HEAT) Trial. Approximately 600 patients will take part in this trial at 24 sites across the United States and Canada.

With this trial, Dr. Lavine and his colleagues are looking at a new FDA approved device called the HydroCoil Embolic System, used in the treatment of brain aneurysms. They are comparing this new system with the current standard, bare platinum coils. Both systems are delivered directly into the brain aneurysm itself, using tiny instruments that are inserted into a major blood vessel in the leg.

You can learn more about the HEAT trial here at clinicaltrials.gov.

You can also learn more about the use of coils like these in the treatment of aneurysms in our article, Endovascular Neuroradiology: The New Frontier.
